CleanHydro — Green Hydrogen Production via Solar Electrolysis
Solar Energy • Canada
About the project
CleanHydro builds green hydrogen micro-plants co-located with Canadian solar farms, producing hydrogen at $2.80/kg to decarbonise truck fleets and heavy industry.
Canada has announced a $50 billion investment plan in clean hydrogen by 2030 to decarbonise its heavy industries. CleanHydro develops PEM (Proton Exchange Membrane) electrolysis micro-plants co-located with existing solar farms in Alberta and British Columbia. Our key innovation is a 1 MW electrolyser with integrated smart power management that optimises production based on spot electricity prices, achieving a production cost of $2.80/kg — competitive with fossil hydrogen. Our first 5 MW site in Lethbridge, Alberta is under construction with an offtake agreement signed with a fleet of 150 trucks. We have benefited from a 30% federal ITC Clean Technology tax credit. The €10M raise will complete the pilot site and start 3 additional sites.
