BioPack develops a range of 100% compostable food packaging made from marine algae, offering a credible, competitively priced alternative to plastic for the food industry.
Europe is progressively banning single-use plastics, creating a €25 billion replacement market by 2027. BioPack has developed a patented material made from marine algae sustainably harvested off the Sardinian coast. This biopolymer offers the same barrier properties as conventional plastic, composts in 12 weeks under domestic conditions, and costs only 15% more than plastic (vs 80–200% for current alternatives). We have signed letters of intent with 3 major Italian grocery chains and a British sandwich manufacturer. Our industrial pilot in Cagliari produces 2 tonnes/month. The €550,000 raise will multiply capacity eightfold and secure the European certifications needed for large-scale commercialisation.
