AgroSenegal — Solar Cold Chain for Small Producers
Agribusiness • Senegal
About the project
AgroSenegal deploys modular solar cold rooms in rural Senegal, cutting post-harvest losses by 70% and enabling women farmers to access urban markets.
In Senegal, 40% of fruit and vegetables produced are lost due to inadequate storage infrastructure — an economic waste estimated at 80 billion FCFA per year. AgroSenegal has developed a modular 10 m³ solar cold room, fully powered by photovoltaic panels with battery storage, designed to withstand Sahelian climate conditions and to be maintained locally. Each unit is managed as a cooperative by a group of women farmers trained by our teams, who charge a storage service fee to neighbouring producers. This model generates 2.5–3.5 million FCFA in monthly revenue per cooperative. We have 8 cold rooms operational in the Thiès and Kaolack regions serving 340 producers. The €500,000 raise will fund 30 new cold rooms and the development of our digital market-access platform.
